Prof. Jasim Mohammad Raises Concern Over Targeting of Religious Leader
New Delhi, Nov 27: Prof. Jasim Mohammad, Secretary General of the Forum for Muslim Studies & Analysis (FMSA) and former Advisor to Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has written a letter to Chief Advisor of Bangladesh His Excellency Dr. Muhammad Yunus, expressing grave concern over the arrest of Shri Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a senior Hindu monk associated with ISKCON and other sanatani. The monk was detained on sedition charges following peaceful protests against attacks on the Hindu community in Bangladesh.
In his letter, Prof. Jasim Mohammad condemned the arrest, stating, “This is a deeply distressing development that undermines the values of justice, harmony, and pluralism. Suppressing peaceful voices calling for justice only erodes the inclusive fabric of Bangladesh’s society.”
Prof. Jasim Mohammad urged the Bangladeshi interim government to take immediate action for the monk’s release and to ensure a fair investigation into the violence against the Hindu community. “I appeal to your Excellency to uphold Bangladesh’s constitutional and international commitments to minority rights and justice. The world is watching, and it is critical for Bangladesh to act decisively to honor its legacy as a land of peace and diversity,” he wrote.
Prof. Jasim Mohammad said that the targeting of a revered religious leader for voicing legitimate concerns is unacceptable.
The letter has added to growing international pressure on the Bangladeshi government to release Shri Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari and to take concrete steps to protect minority communities.
“Bangladesh must ensure accountability for the perpetrators of these attacks instead of silencing those who advocate for peace and justice,” he added.
